Humanists International "Freedom of Thought Report 2025" Launch
Humanists International is launching (via an On-Line Meeting) its "Freedom of Thought Report 2025". This report is one of the resources that Humanists International develops and distributes widely. It is often cited by journalists and others when talking about how free different countries really are. The report rates countries on: - Constitution and Government - Education and Children's Rights - Society & Community: and - Freedom of Expression, Humanist Values Particularly noteworthy is the recent decline of the ratings for the United States of America in some of these categories. This event will feature a discussion of how religion has been used by governments around the world as a political tool to advance their ambitions, undermine human rights, and justify repression. Humanists International will be joined by Katarina Barley (Vice-President of the European Parliament), Ellis Mathews (Head of the Human Rights Division, EEAS), and Mubarak Bala (Former President of the Nigerian Humanist Association, imprisoned for 5 years on so-called “blasphemy” charges). After the launch, the Freedom of Thought Report 2025 can be downloaded from the Humanists International website. This event will be held on-line on Wednesday, February 25, at 11:15 Eastern Time.
