Nancy Morgan, Coordinator of the Virginia chapter of American Promise, works on getting big money out of politics. Her background, 20 years as an economist working for the United Nations on governance and food security issues (the Food and Agriculture Organization), 10 years with USDA working on policy, and 7 years in the U.S. Peace Corps in Africa, has promoted a commitment to “getting money out of politics”. She is working on passing a U.S. constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, enacting campaign finance at the federal level, and getting Virginia, one of only 5 states with no limitations on campaign finance, to finally enact campaign finance legislation. Nancy will be talking about the status of money in our political process, review policy options to address this issue and exploring actions which citizens can take to influence their legislators.
