"Nonviolence in a Violent World" -- Jone Johnson Lewis, NoVES Leader
Last September 11 was not only the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center Twin Towers and the Pentagon, but also the 100th anniversary of Gandhi's nonviolence movement. In April 2007, a terrible tragedy at Virginia Tech brought violence very close to home.
Does nonviolence as a technique have any relevance in a post-9/11 world? Jone will talk a bit about what nonviolence is not (submission, appeasement, etc.) and what its history has been. Consider: can we afford not to work to build a nonviolent world?
