Ethical Etty's blogEthical Etty: Advice for the Ethically Minded – Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain – Lewis ThomasSubmitted by Ethical Etty on Mon, 05/18/2009 - 9:04am.Dear Etty,
I just returned from a Sunday platform at which the speaker delivered a talk about a philosopher who had some connections to Ethical Culture. While the speaker was enthusiastic, I was unable to understand many of the concepts because he neglected to provide descriptions of the various philosophies that he mentioned. Should I have said something during response? Is there an ethical way to comment on a speaker? As a NOVES member, I understand that the Society looks to me for financial support. However, I am feeling uncomfortable about the frequency of requests for donations when I am not doing all that well. Any suggestions about how I can deal with these negative feelings?
Dough Boy Etty: Advice for the Ethically Minded - Hard of HearingSubmitted by Ethical Etty on Mon, 02/09/2009 - 3:33pm.
Dear Etty,
I have a friend who is hard of hearing. He is fifty-five years old. His hearing loss has gone from mild to severe and I frequently have to repeat my words. When I asked him whether he had sought medical advice about his hearing, he told me that it is not so bad. When I pressed a bit, he said that a hearing aid would make him look old. Several months have passed since I mentioned my concern. Suggestions? Etty: Advice for the Ethically MindedSubmitted by Ethical Etty on Sun, 12/21/2008 - 7:48pm.Dear Etty,
Ok, I admit it. I am overweight. And so is my spouse. We just can’t seem to control our appetites. We are now on cholesterol lowering medicines. We are not good at exercising. I have good willpower for most of the day. By nightfall, my self-control is down and my caloric intake is up. Is there any help? Fighting the Bulge |
