Sunday School for Ethics
Sunday School Blog! (see what's happening throughout the year)
2013, 09/15 Oh what a first day we had!!!!
Wow! All I can say is WOW!
Ok, maybe I can say more than that! We had a full house on Sunday (well, almost, we were missing a few familar faces who will be back this coming Sunday). It was an absolutely gorgeous Sunday and we started the year with over 100 members and guests, 34 of them being our children.
We listened to the great story, The Great Fuzz Frenzy read by the society's greatest story reader, Delia.
After that we all went back to the biggest classroom and with standing room only, we got sorted into our classes. Yep... We have a sorting hat! (hmmm... maybe we need to give it a name? Anyone have a great idea? Adler hat? Tee Hee!)
We spent the next 20 minutes sorting the 34 kids in attendance into their classes. Each child got sorted with a personal little something. Like A. likes gymastics! And B. has on cute black shoes. And C. loves science and music and D. went to England this summer.
There were 5 houses to be sorted into. Our houses for the year are the Curious Critters (the preschool class). There is the Truffula Bumps (K-1st grade). And there is the Rainbow Warriors of the Courageous Heart (2nd-4th). Followed by the Bouyancy House (5th-7th) and rounded out by Mentorship (9th-10th).
Now, the sorting hat got confused a few times when the mommies and daddies had to wear the hats instead of the wee little ones (what? a talking hat on your head might be a little scary? Yep - if you are 2, 3 or 4 and sometimes 5!) So, the hat sometimes said, "Ah, you are trying to confuse me, but I know what to do! You have cute dimples... you are in Curious Critters!)
It was a lot of fun and the faces on the children being sorted was priceless. Plus, I discovered a way to keep a room of 50 plus people quiet! Just have a quietly talking hat in the room! (might need to get a microphone for it next year).
After that the teachers and assistants for the year did a quick hello. (and it was really quick as the kids needed to go play). So, that is what we did. We went outside and played. We love play time.
So, the next 20 minutes we all got reacquainted and it was great. I saw old friendships from last year rekindled, new ones being formed, and the parents and teachers chatting and enjoying themselves.
We ended the day back with the rest of the members and guests celebrating NoVES' 30th year with yummy sandwiches, fruit, cake, juices and punch and lots and lots of smiles. It was a wonderful, WONDERFUL start to a brand new season at NoVES Sunday School.
